Clever Uses For Ten Everyday Kitchen Items.
You don’t need to have the latest new kitchen gadgets or funky accessories, here are the top 10 tips from My Beautiful Kitchen for the alternative use of everyday kitchen items.
- Dryer sheets – Those clever little pieces of fabric you put into your tumbler dryer to make everything fresh and non-static are also brilliant for cleaning your TV or computer screen. Better still, try popping one into a gym bag, suitcase or even your trainers to keep them smelling fresh.
- Kitchen roll – Are you the sort of person that can never find a plastic bag when you really need one? Stuff them into the inner tube of a spent kitchen roll and keep it somewhere handy. They’re also good for storing electrical leads and cables. Simply wrap them round the roll to prevent tangles.
- Coffee filters – If you use paper filters to make coffee, you’ll be pleased to know that they’re handy for filtering pieces of cork out of a bottle of wine should the cork break when you’re taking it out.
- Ziploc bags– Not just useful for storing stuff or marinating meats. Try snipping off a corner and, hey presto, you have an instant pastry bag for piping icing. And if you hate the messy business of kneading dough, stick it in a Ziploc bag and knead it from the outside to keep your hands mess-free.
- Toothpicks – Isn’t it really annoying when you can’t find the end of the sellotape? Try wrapping the end round a toothpick and you’ll never have that problem again. Toothpicks are also incredibly handy for getting into the reset hole on electronic devices.
- Spaghetti – Here’s a really cool tip for lighting lots of candles. Instead of using a separate match for each or burning your fingers, light one end of a stick of spaghetti. It should burn long enough to light plenty of candles.
- Blender – Your blender might be great when it comes to making soup, but did you know it’s also handy for making paper mache for children’s creative projects. You can also use it for mixing filler or plaster for odd jobs around the house. Just make sure you clean it properly afterwards.
- Ice cube tray – And talking of the children and art, you can make painting time less messy by converting an ice cube tray into an art palette. Moreover, if you’ve a baby, when making batches of infant food, it’s a good idea to freeze the puree in individual ice cube tray departments.
- Laundry basket – Having friends round for a barbecue? A bin liner full of ice in a laundry basket makes a great beer cooler. And, in winter, an old laundry basket can become a great toboggan for small children.
- Dishwasher – Dishwasher make great sterilisers. Use it to clean and sterilise jars before packing them with homemade condiments and preserves. Plastic baby toys can be disinfected too, making them safe for little mouths.
