Five Funky Kitchen Gadgets

As  kitchen designers, the team at My Beautiful Kitchen can be a bit of a sucker for kitchen gadgets. If you looked in our attics, you’d find a few dodgy purchases, but here are 5 cool kitchen gizmos that are well worth the money.

1: Sink top chopping board and drainer

Have you ever been preparing food, only to find you’ve run out of space on your worktops?

This chopping board is the solution. It fits over your sink, giving you more space to work with. And, with a handy removable collapsible colander, it even gives you somewhere to stick your peelings.

2: Alligator Onion Chopper

Chopping onions – a great way to get tears in your eyes and smelly hands – until now!

With the Alligator, simply peel the outer skin off of the onion, cut it in half, and place face down on the chopper. Then push the handle down and, bingo, a finely diced onion.

3: Magimix Food Processors

These are the Rolls Royce of food processors. With it you can blend, grate, chop, slice, whisk and knead a true chef’s best friend.  This is perfect for making pastry, coleslaw, pesto… in fact, pretty much anything that doesn’t come in a packet or go in the microwave.

4: Beep Egg

This gadget is genius. If you’ve ever mistimed boiling an egg, this is a solution that’s not only effective, it’ll also put a smile on your face.

Simply put this in the pan with your egg and it plays a tune when the egg is cooked…

• When the egg is soft-boiled it plays Killing me Softly…
• When it’s medium boiled, it plays I Wish I Was a Hen…
• And, when hard-boiled, it plays Carmina Burana (Creepy music from the Omen)

5: Compact Herb Chopper

Unless you use a lot of fresh herbs, this one is a bit of an indulgence… but you’ve got to love the design.

What looks to be a green disc, turns out to be a chopping surface that houses double chopping blades. Take the blades out and use the handle to chop herbs placed on the surface.

Easy, clean, elegant.

It also cuts many things other than herbs, so if you’re looking for an excuse to justify buying one, there you go!
