Light Up Your Life With Some Lighting From My Beautiful Kitchen
When it comes to how your kitchen looks it’s often the small things that can make the biggest difference and lighting is one of those things that can make all the difference.
Lighting can be used for setting the mood, functional purposes, or to highlight design features. But, the best result is always achieved by using a combination of different types of lighting. That way, a quality fitted kitchen can look absolutely stunning.
My Beautiful Kitchen offer a wide range of kitchen lighting, and our technicians have the expertise to illuminate you with all the information you need to get the right solution for your kitchen plan.
Getting light right
Perhaps the most common mistake when it comes to DIY kitchen lighting is that too many people design a great looking kitchen, but try to light it all with a single ceiling light. When planning your kitchen, it’s essential to plan your lighting into the design and set aside a budget that takes into account all the decorative and architectural elements of the room.
Here is an example of a kitchen in Glasgow with lighting we did for Mr & Mrs Smiley. Our customers were delighted with the results and you see some pictures of their project by clicking on the link.
LED lighting vs fluorescent tubes
LED lighting has become one of the more popular options for kitchen lighting now. But what many people don’t know is that fluorescent tube lighting has come along way since the old days of hum, buzz and glare. Built-in electronic controllers mean all that has been eliminated and, like LED lighting, fluorescent tube lighting is also much more efficient than traditional incandescent bulb sources, so it’s a good idea to consider both when looking for the best solution for your kitchen.
Fluorescent lighting can work well in illuminating a large surface area, whereas LED performs well for directional light purpose, for instance, for displays or accents.
Where LED lighting does have an advantage is that it comes in a number of formats such as circular, pyramid, or even on tracks, giving you much more choice when it comes to your kitchen plan. And, by using many sources of low voltage lighting, instead of just a few sources of high-powered lighting, or a single ceiling light, you gain more ambient light and reduce glare.
The importance of layered lighting
Using a variety of types of lighting is known as layered lighting and will create a space that is both functional and beautiful. Certain types of lighting will work better in certain areas, such as under-cabinet lighting, (usually hidden from view) for illuminating a work surface, pendant lights for above an island unit, or over-cabinet lighting to accentuate a colour scheme giving you the perfect kitchen design.
Take control
Of course, today, we have more controls than ever for the technology in our homes and this applies to lighting too. For example, adding dimmers is a good idea if your eating area is in the kitchen. Motion detectors have also become popular for walk-in storage areas, cupboards and even drawers.
