How Kitchen Dreams Can Turn Into Kitchen Nightmares
You might think that planning a new kitchen is an easy task, but if you’re not careful, things can go wrong and if they do, it can lead to wasted time, lost money and a whole lot of stress and exasperation! Let’s take a look at three common mistakes…
Changing Plans Half Way Through: If you’re not 100% happy with your kitchen design before work commences, you can find yourself changing the plans halfway through (or, even worse, having to settle for a kitchen that isn’t what you wanted).
This is because measurements will have already been calculated and materials ordered. Change anything, and you’re likely to lose a substantial amount of money. If you forget your budget in your quest to build the perfect kitchen, you may find that you don’t have the money to finish it – leaving you with a half-finished kitchen!
Solution: make sure you have a clear vision of how your kitchen will look. Some companies – including ours – provide all potential customers with 3D computer drawings of how their kitchen designs. That makes it far easier for you to make changes before any materials have been ordered and before any work has started
Incorrect Measurements: If a contractor makes mistakes when measuring your kitchen, it’s likely to leave the finished kitchen looking ill-fitting, slapdash and haphazard.
Solution: before you commit to using a contractor’s services, make sure that they are willing to take responsibility for any incorrect measurements that affect the overall outcome of your new kitchen. One way of ensuring this is the case is to use a company that works to a fixed price. Not only will they be the ones that pay for any mistakes, they’ll know this and that makes them less likely to make mistakes in the first place.
DIY Kitchens: It might seem cheaper to take charge of your own renovations and remodelling and go it alone. However, by charging in without consulting a professional contractor, you could find you have overspent (usually quite considerably), and that you have not utilised the space effectively or attractively.
Solution: someone once said, “If you think it’s expensive to hire a professional, try hiring an amateur”. Kitchen design and fitting requires skill and experience. And someone with that skill and experience will not only be able to do a better and faster job, the money they save through (1) their relationships with suppliers, (2) not having to re-do work, and (3) not wasting materials will usually more than pay for their services… and leave you with a much better kitchen.
