Thinking About A New Kitchen? Don’t Know Where To Start?
With so many things to think about, it can be hard to know what to look for in your new kitchen.
Here are 5 things to consider.
No 1: For most people, budget will be the first consideration. A new kitchen can cost anywhere from few hundred pounds to top of the range hand made kitchens at Fifty thousand pounds and above. While “more expensive” usually means “better”, it can also mean “unnecessary”. A good kitchen company will help you choose the units, work surfaces, fittings and appliances that will suit your budget and give you the best quality and value for your money.
No 2: Another restriction is going to be the size of the room. With a smaller kitchen to work with, you may have to give up the idea of a kitchen table and go with a breakfast bar and stools instead. The key is to get full use of the space available without feeling the kitchen is crowded and over-full.
Your choice of appliances will be a factor here. Are you going to have a dishwasher or wine chiller in your kitchen? If so, that’ll take away room for cupboards etc.
No 3: The next thing to think about is style. The kitchen should make sense in the context of your home – a rustic farmhouse style kitchen is likely to look out of place if every other room in your home is decorated in a modern style.
You also need to think about the future. You may want to sell your home in a few years’ time and if so it would help to have a kitchen that will appeal to many buyers – rather than just your own individual tastes.
No 4: Next comes the work. Have a think about what work you need carried out in the kitchen. Do you need some plastering or ceramic tiling? How about a new floor?
It’s worth thinking about all the extra bits that need done as these are the bits that are often overlooked and can blow the your budget right out of the water if your not careful!
It’s always so much easier going through the one company to manage the entire job. This way its all project managed for you. It’s hassle free and you can be confident that everything will get done in the right order and the job schedule will finish on time.
If you are after the cheapest way of doing things then it might be best to get a few quotes from different trades and try to manage it all yourself. Get individual quotes for joiners, electricians, plumbers, tilers, gas engineers, hire a skip and try to co-ordinate the entire project yourself.
Although this might be the cheapest way it’s going to be very hard to manage and you might be without a kitchen for a few weeks till its completed.
No 5: Once you’ve thought about what you want from your kitchen, talk to a kitchen design company you can trust. Dont go for a “commission salesman who work for a kitchen company” as they may well not be knowledgable about the actual build. Ethical kitchen designers get most of their work through referrals and most of their referrals from treating their customer’s right.
Talking with them about your ideas should prevent you from doing anything impractical or impossible.
Hope this Helps
